BIOGRAPHY
Frederic Jost, born in Munich, is a young German bass who was a member of the Opera Studio at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin. During his time there, he sang in productions such as W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and R. Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos.
In the season 2024/25, Frederic made his debut as Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Opera Oviedo. Following this, he will perform the role of Rotny in a production of Eugene Onegin by Christoph Loy at the Teatro Real in Madrid. He will then travel to Maggio Musicale in Florence to sing the Soldier in Salome, before returning to the Bregenz Festival to perform the role of the Hermit in Der Freischütz.
Frederic made his debut at the Frankfurt Opera in 2018, performing the role of Ordulfo in Enrico. Since then, he has taken on a variety of roles there, including Grech in Fedora, Zaretski in Onegin, Charodejka in Tchaikovsky’s The Sorceress, the First Ghost in The Magic Flute, the First Apprentice in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, the Innkeeper in Engelbert Humperdinck’s The King’s Children, the First Soldier in Richard Strauss’ Salome.
Highlights from previous seasons include the role of Comte de Grieux in Massenet’s Manon at the Opera de Oviedo, Horatio in Thomas’ Hamlet at the Komische Oper Berlin and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.
Since 2014, Frederic Jost has been a regular guest at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. In 2019, he participated in the filmed production of Alceste by C.W. Gluck. At the same theater, he has also performed in productions such as G. Menotti’s The Consul, the world premieres of Mauerschau by H. Berheide and Jephta’s Daughter by C. Magal, as well as the role of the Second Official in Die Soldaten by B.A. Zimmermann, conducted by Kirill Petrenko.
