Czech coloratura soprano Lucie Kaňková has established herself in a repertoire ranging from Mozart and bel canto to Verdi, Strauss and Czech opera. Her signature role, the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, has taken her to the National Theatre Prague, Hungarian State Opera, Royal Opera of Wallonia-Liège, Festival de Sanxay, Sofia Opera and Ballet and on tour in Japan.

Her repertoire also includes Violetta in La traviata, Gilda in Rigoletto, the title roles in Lucia di Lammermoor and Anna Bolena, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea and the title role in Martinů’s Ariane.

2026/27 SEASON

During the 2026/27 season, Lucie Kaňková makes her role debut as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in the Czech Republic and returns to the Royal Opera of Wallonia-Liège in Smetana’s The Kiss.

She also continues her collaboration with the National Theatre Prague, returning as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte and Violetta in La traviata.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Recent highlights include her role debut as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos at the National Theatre Prague and performances there as Violetta in La traviata and the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte. In summer 2026, she made her Festival de Sanxay debut as the Queen of the Night.

Further recent engagements include Violetta in a new production of La traviata at Theater Freiburg and Terinka in Dvořák’s The Jacobin in Brno. She has also appeared as the title role in Martinů’s Ariane at Deutsche Oper am Rhein and as Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Margravial Opera House in Bayreuth.

Born into a family of musicians, Kaňková initially trained as a violinist before pursuing vocal studies in Bern, Lucerne and Prague. She is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including First Prize at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition and Second Prize and the Audience Prize at the IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition.
