BIOGRAPHY

Maria Chabounia is a light-lyric soprano, recognized for her versatile voice and dynamic stage presence. Her recent performances include roles such as Adele in Die Fledermaus at Opera Vlaanderen, Lisa in La Sonnambula at Gärtnerplatztheater, Susanna in Peter Stein’s production of Le nozze di Figaro at Malmö Opera, and Musetta in La Bohème at the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago and Opera Vlaanderen.

A participant in the Accademia Rossiniana, Chabounia performed Madama Cortese in Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. At Malmö Opera, she portrayed Gilda in Rigoletto in a production directed by Kasper Holten. Other notable performances include Gilda and Marfa in Tsar’s Bride at the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus and the title role in Katze Ivanka at Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, composed by Massimiliano Matesic and directed by Vera Nemirova.

At the Hamburg Staatsoper, Chabounia’s roles included Eurydice in Telemann’s Orpheus, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Papagena, and Barbarina, where she worked with renowned conductors such as Ottavio Dantone, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, and Renato Palumbo.

Chabounia has won several awards, including second prize at the 2014 Debut Competition in Weikersheim, first prize at the2015 Minsk Opera Competition, and the Best French Aria Interpretation and Audience Prizes at the 2018 Competition of Opera de Marseille. She also earned a special jury prize at the 2015 Marmande Competition.

Born in Minsk in 1992, Chabounia began her musical studies as a pianist at the age of five and graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music in 2016. She has participated in masterclasses with Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Mietta Siegele, and Alfonso Antoniozzi, enriching her growth as an artist on the international stage.
