Chinese baritone Jiazhou Wang is emerging as one of the most promising young singers of his generation. Winner of the 75th Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in 2025, where he was also awarded the Cesare Bardelli Prize for Best Baritone, he has since been selected for two of the world’s leading international singing competitions, Operalia 2026 and the final round of NEUE STIMMEN 2026.

2026/27 SEASON

In the 2026/27 season, Jiazhou Wang joins the Maria Manetti Shrem Emerging Artists Program of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. His engagements with the company include Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, the Steersman in Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, Quinault in Adriana Lecouvreur and the Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata.

The season also sees Wang participate in Operalia 2026 in Shanghai and the final round of the NEUE STIMMEN International Singing Competition in Gütersloh, following his First Prize at the Viotti International Music Competition.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

In summer 2025, Wang was selected for the prestigious Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda” of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, culminating in performances as Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims at the Teatro Rossini. He also appeared in concerts and recitals during the festival, further developing his affinity with the Rossini and bel canto repertoire.

In October 2025, at the age of 21, Wang won First Prize at the 75th Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition in Vercelli. He was additionally awarded the Cesare Bardelli Prize for Best Baritone and became the first Chinese singer in the history of the competition to win its First Prize.

In August 2026, Wang gave a solo recital in Poitiers in collaboration with the Soirées Lyriques de Sanxay, presenting a programme spanning Massenet, Rossini, Bellini, Korngold and Tchaikovsky.

His repertoire includes roles such as Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni, Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims, Riccardo in I puritani and Marcello in La bohème, alongside concert repertoire including Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Born in China in 2004, Jiazhou Wang studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and continues his vocal development under the guidance of Italian baritone Pietro Spagnoli.
