BIOGRAPHY
Winner of the Talent ADAMI 2023 and Fonds Tutti 2024 programmes, French tenor Abel Zamora trained at the Département Supérieur pour Jeunes Chanteurs in Paris and then at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse in Lyon. He won 2nd Prize in the Concours National Thomas Kuti 2022 and the Grand Prix de la Mélodie Française at the Concours International OPUS ARTIS PARIS 2023, and took part in the Jeunes Talents season as part of the Autékia duo he formed with pianist Félix Moussiegt, performing in recital at the Musée des Archives Nationales in Paris in spring 2024.
Praised for his "brilliant voice" (Olyrix), "fine presence" (Res Musica), "seductive timbre" (Classique c'est cool) and "excellent diction" (Prémière Loge), Abel made his debut in 2022 at the Opéra de Toulon in the role of the Notary in La Périchole (J. Offenbach).
In the Season 2024/25 Abel will sing the role of Don Ottavio with Arcal (Compagnie Nationale de Théâtre Lyrique et Musical), Parpignol in La Bohème conducted by Alexandre Bloch with the Orchestre National de Lille, and Beppe in Pagliacci at the Opéra de Saint-Etienne. On the concert stage he will perform Mass b-moll (Bach) at the Bordeaux Cathedral.
Abel was a member of the Opéra-Comique's Académie Favart for the 2023-2024 season. Here he debuted as Amant Fortuné in Armide (J. B. Lully) conducted by Christophe Rousset, and as the tenor soloist in Pulcinella (I. Stravinsky) under the baton of Louis Langrée. In the summer of 2024, he returned to the Edinburgh International Festival to sing Rémendado in Carmen.
Abel is highly regarded in the Mozart repertoire, recently debuting such roles as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Basilio (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Ottavio. His repertoire combines both early music (Ercole in Sartorio's Orfeo, with ARCAL conducted by Philippe Jarrousky) and contemporary music: Abel was heard in such roles as Petit Vieillard, Théière and Rainette in L'Enfant et les Sortilèges (M. Ravél), also in Pierre Rigal's creation MERVEILLE (Opéra de Paris production), and in Frank Krawzcyk's L'Affaire Clemenza, a free adaptation of La Clemenza di Tito (W. A. Mozart) at La Seine Musicale.
